The 'Let's Talk' Forum is changing

As a result of feedback we will be introducing a new way of accessing support information called 'SPECAL Sense'

The 'Let's Talk' forum linked to SPECAL's website has always been reserved for readers of 'Contented Dementia' who have attended one of the SPECAL Photograph Album introductory days. We have recently reviewed the benefits of having an online forum, and have decided that the needs of our course attendees are better served by their initially seeking direct guidance from our e-mail support team in relation to any specific issues they are encountering for the first time whilst developing SPECAL Care. The team is able to offer additional telephone support where this seems the best way forward in any particular case.

We are finding that people develop SPECALSENSE at their own pace, and that it is really important that they are carefully guided through the sometimes complex mix of general principles whilst considering the detail of their particular person's situation. Because the Profile and Passport are so person-specific, we are keen to provide a fully personalised response service to all enquiries, using a combination of our website, our e-mail service and the telephone support service, as well as our training courses.

As you know, carers are able to meet members of the e-mail support team in person at our courses: this helps the subsequent e-mail exchanges. Some carers agree to exchange e-mail addresses directly with fellow students on the day, but this is by no means always the case.

We are now designing a space on our website dedicated to the development of SPECALSENSE, using questions put to us by course attendees. We are also planning to expand our section on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to reflect questions raised by readers of the book who have not already attended a course, as these can also provide surprisingly helpful reading for others who are further along the way of developing SPECALSENSE.

We are confident that the decision to replace a web-based forum by a more comprehensive FAQ section on our website, backed by fully individualised support from our team via e-mail and telephone, is in the best interests of everyone wishing to develop and deliver SPECAL Care for their person with dementia.
